Friesian & Gypsy Vanner Photo Shoot
Kristen visited a local farm to visit their Friesian and Gypsy Vanners. Kristen will be doing a on location, costume shoot featuring both breeds in October for a private commission. Monday's visit was a great way to get to know her subjects (horse and human) on a more personal note. Although the weather was less than ideal a great time was had by all.
Here a few shots from the day. Additional photos may be seen on my FaceBook album or on my Blog.

Photo Shoot at J.C. Andalusians in Barboursville
A fellow artist, photographer, and friend Debby Thomas invited me to go with her to a nearby Andalusian breeder for a photo shoot. We traveled to J.C. Andalusians twice, and on our second visit we had a terrific morning photographing their beautiful horses. Below are just a few of my photos of their stallion EL ESPIRITU who was a beautiful subject that I look forward to painting sometime soon; and one of their lovely farm with two mares in the foreground.
Please visit www.jcandalusians.com for more information on these wonderful horses.

Mural Mosaic

Local Artist Is Part of a Bigger Picture
Kristen Queen of Buckingham, VA is proud to be a part of a large collaboration of equine artists from around the world chosen to participate in Mural Mosaics “Le Cadeau Du Cheval” (The Horse Gift) designed by Canadian artist Lewis Lavoie. On Wednesday, Sept. 3, the completed mural will officially be unveiled at the Masters tournament at the Spruce Meadows Equestrian Park in Alberta, Canada.
Queen was issued panel number two out of 238 panels. Each panel is pre-painted to reflect a tone or shape that corresponds to the completed and assembled mural design. The artists must paint accordingly to the shapes, and colors on the panel but the subject matter is completely to their choosing. This is a difficult, creative, and fun challenge to all the artists who participated.
Queen’s panel entitled “Day Break in Virginia Horse Country” was inspired by the sights of horses along the drive to the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA nestled against the Blue Ridge Mountains. “This was a great way to not only represent the animal that I love the most, but to represent a part of Virginia as well. This mural not only represents horses, but cultures, and artists from around the world. All the works of art are diverse, but as a horse lover I can relate to every piece.”
"Unity through diversity" Mural Mosaic brings together hundreds of individual paintings created by hundreds of artists into one unifying image. The mural brings together the amazing talents of equine artists from such countries as Canada, USA, England Germany, Finland, Romania, South Africa, Argentina, Peru, Australia and Mexico. Each painting reflects an individual's unique creativity and style. When a painting is completed the 16 inch x 16 inch panel is carefully placed in sequence within the mural to assemble one masterpiece. No digital effects are used. When completely assembled the mural will be approximately 18 feet x 20 feet. This mural is considered by many to be the most definitive collaborative equine masterpiece ever created celebrating the worlds love, admiration and respect for the horse.
